What car after your Mk5?
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:32:27 am »
I have just got a new job which will add a lot of miles to my daily commute, I have an edition 30 on 82k but I reckon I will have to replace it soon to try and save money on fuel and I was just wondering what people have moved onto next?

I reckon it might have to be a diesel so if anyone has any suggestions of diesels that are anywhere near as good to drive as the Mk5 that would be great?

Like the look but as mentioned the economy has to be well over 40 to make it worth it I reckon.

mk6 Golf GTD best of both worlds

I've just made the move from a manual mk5 GTI to a DSG mk6 GTD.

Having had the Mk5 for over 3years and 60,000 the the Mk6 GTD is a great next step.
I'm saving money on fuel and it has a few more toys than my Mk5 had.
The DSG is a great match with the common rail engine - I think if I had gone for a manual, it would have reminded me of the old GTI too much! :sad1:

Not going too do much to it, and hopefully sell in a year's time for a nice Mk7 GTI DSG.

Might have to go and test drive a GTD, sounds like one of the better options!?

Good question!

I'm planning on changing at some point this year. So far, my short list looks like this:

BMW 530d M Sport (current shape)
BMW 335d Tourer (e90)
Audi A5 sportback
Audi S4 (3.0 TFSi model)
Jaguar XF
Mk6 GTi
Or a New Golf GTD on a lease.

I was going to change at the back end of last year, but my head hurt from thinking about it. I've held out, as there's a possibility of a career change ahead. For the time being, the GTi will do :)

^^ of your shortlist I think I'd be most tempted by the S4 3.0L

If you haven't seen it already:
