His old battery was completely flat and probably sulphated. Jumping it too soon can throw voltage spikes through all the ecu's.

I honestly did not know about leaving the batteries connected for 3 mins to let the voltage equalise! same with not disconnecting the batteries whilst running!

Well the garage are coming take my car on Friday. The insurance company said I would be covered under accidental damage as it was my jump starting it that put the electrics out. I'm just not so sure this is going to be as simple as it sounds. I can't see me blowing the electrics being seen by the insurance company as as accidental damage.

What do you think?

You have caused this damage by accident, therefore it is accidental damage.

There are quite a few things covered by insurers that people do not know about, such as wrong fuel then driving the car etc.

They sound like they have already accepted the claim so you shouldn't worry!

Yeah,I thought of that,but the plastic is still on the grips of the battery clips...I'd have thought that there would have been some of the covering left up there if the rest had burnt away?
Maybe its that clear kind of covering...

You could ask your insurance company what it would cost you to 'retain salvage'. You'll get the car after settlement and you could then break it for the unaffected parts and possible make some cash in the process.
Engine, g'box, interior, doors etc etc.

My brother-in-law got paid out when he drove his diesel through floodwater and wrecked his engine.  That was classed as accidental damage.  I guess they call an "accident" anything that isn't a "deliberate".

Yea I think I am going to do this as I could make a lot from the parts as they are in great condition.
Do I ask about retaining salvage at this early stage or after they have made me an offer?

Does anybody know where I can find someone to perform an exorcism on my car? My car is possessed!!

Bloke from the insurance company just come to collect the car... It has no electrics and my car has been unlocked on the drive (it won't lock) with the window stuck down for the past few days. I handed him the key and he pressed the unlock button and I heard a click! So electrics were working for a minute so he jumped in to get the window shut while we had power. Started the engine And then shut the door. The next thing we heard was another big click... The car had just decided to lock itself with the key inside and engine running lol arghhh...

Couldn't help but laugh! Eventually he had to smash the car window that was previously open to get in! LOL I could cry I really could haha in a way I hope they can't fix the fault lol

I'd be looking to retain salvage and strip for parts. Body panels/interior/alloys could be worth it on their own.
