Both look great but somehow I think the mk5 in general suits the 5dr shape. Think the 3 door looks like a 5 door car adjusted (guess it probably was!?)

I prefer the 3-dr shape for the mk5. The 5-dr looks good for sure, but for some reason I prefer the 3dr. Guess I am also scarred by having to replace the door locks on my old mkiv 5dr two times on each door in my ownership due to failures...

I weighed up how often I carried rear passengers, and decided 3dr was for me, but I admit it can be a pain with the long front doors in tight parking spaces.

5 door is handy if you ferry mates, kids etc. Looks good too imo.

5 door better because when it's lashing down you don't have to get out to let your mates in the back

being 6.1 I find in five door cars the seat is so far back the b pillar blocks my side view far more than in a 3 door

and 95% of the time there's no more than two people in the car , I'm old and my sons 30  :happy2:

^^^^This! My only issue with my 5 door after coming from a 3 door.

Other than that i have no preference

I have a newborn and a 3dr, can get him in and out no problems into the ISOFIX base.

I don't think a 5dr would be particularly better in these circumstances as I still think it would be a bit small for the 'family car'
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

3 door for me - not only in the Mk5 Golf but for any car availible - the only reason I'd have a 5 door is if a 3 door hasnt been made.
