New member, pre-modded GTi
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:41:44 pm »
Hi all, just bought a pre-modded MKV GTi DSG. Looking to get back into dubs after straying with a Fraud.

Mods I can see

'Volkswagen Racing' branded front & rear calipers (does anyone have any info on these?)
Lowering springs (brand/height unknown)
Some BBS LM replicas (again, size/fitment unknown)
Exhaust (been told its a bluflame catback)

Having a few problems with it, exhaust warning light came on and had noisy idle, so had tensioner changed and new s3 inlet cam fitted, fixed problem and car performed much better, now engine light is back on and car feels dog slow (coming from a 300+ hp Focus ST). Any suggestions what to try next?

Also, few other niggles if anyone can help

- trip reset button doesn't work
- interior switches aren scratched to hell ( can these be replaced with mk6 ones?)
- fag lighter seems to have packed up, fused?

Once that little lot is sorted i'll be after some 3sdm .05 and some go faster bits. Maybe some tunes too!

The switches can be changed to the chrome tip ones--Is that your focus in the pic

Heya, welcome! Nice bunch here on these forums, solved most of my problems by searching or replies :)

Just to say, I think that the "Volkswagen Racing" calipers are probably just the normal calipers but someone has stuck some decals onto them. You can probably remove them with a hairdryer/heat gun and a credit card if they aren't to your taste!

Candy white looks amazing on the MK5. I have found that using a nice wax like the Autoglym HD works really well on flat colours like that and also provides good winter protection if you can't be bothered to get out there in the cold every weekend and hand clean it!

Thanks for that. Took it to JBS last time who diagnosed the tensioner fault. Will have to take it back I think and get them to have another look at it. I've seen somehwere that the exhaust has 3 lambda probes, could it be one of these and the aftermarket exhaust playing up?

Yeah the Focus was mine. Had a bit of a collection at one point.

Also have a 1.4S Lupo. CTR and Focus have gone now though.

You've got a nice stance on your Golf mate, I wonder how low it is.

My suspicion would be somewhere between 40-60mm, I think the wheels are quite. A random offset too as I get a bit of scrubbage on maximum compression.

On a plus note, the exhaust warning light turned itself off today, which makes me think it may be a sensor fault.

Update time!

Firstly, fixed the bodged induction kit so it no longer smacks the underside of the bonnet and isn't rubbing though the radiator hose.

Picture of said induction kit being made to sit in the corner and think about what its done whilst I replace the hose.

Then like an absolute 2 hat I called into the sister in laws house on the way home from Fittted (where I counted 11 cars with air and Brotiform IND) and smacked my bumper into her dry stone wall. I thought I was clear but forgot bits stick out.

I've also been suffering from the car running like an massive bag of sh*t since I bought it, the route cause turned out to be a failing injector on cylinder 2. Whilst that was at JBS it also became apparent that 'aftermarket exhaust' was actually the standard exhaust with the rear silencer cut out.

So now the car is working fine, I need to sort the bodged window switches and find some different wheels I like. I'd like CLK multispokes but not sure if theybfit without arch work.

For a first time show it was really good. I thought letting the brand new 458 into the show and shine was a bit silly though. Nice mix of cars but would've preferred some more older stuff, but i guess thats whats in fashion at the moment.
