Cam Follower Replacement - Do I Need Engine Assembly Oil/lube
« on: February 13, 2014, 10:34:57 pm »
Hi,

Going to replace my cam follower at the weekend and want to know if I should use an engine assembly oil/lube or is it sufficient to just use some engine oil? If I do need engine assembly oil/lube can anyone recommend a readily available high quality brand?

With thanks,

I just used oil too. As soon as you start the car it'll be bathed in oil anyway.

I think most just coat with oil.

APR on the other hand state this when installing their hpfp:
If you are using a new cam follower, be sure to use some moly grease on the camshaft side of the follower for initial break in.
Lubricate the O-ring on the outside body of the APR FSI pump with engine oil.
Without traction power is nothing!
