Hi - 5th Golf, First MkV
« on: February 12, 2014, 01:16:24 pm »
Hello mk5golfgti.co.uk,

my name is Michael, Mik for short, I live in Lancaster and work at Lancaster University, having previously done a PhD there. While I'm in the Engineering department, my work is more chemistry based although I am also involved in the University's Formula Student team.

I'm a long time VW fan with my current 2006 Golf GT TDI 170 DSG being my 7th VW, 5th Golf but 1st MkV (or Mk5 as you apparently prefer)  :happy2:

I picked up the car at the back end of last year for £7,500 with 58k miles, one owner, FSH etc. and it has been wonderful. The switch from my previous Corrado VR6 & MkIV Golf 1.6 SR has been enormous and it pretty much feels like a brand new car to me.

Anyway here's a quick pic of the change I made and I will be sure to create a proper topic to show my car once I get round to taking some decent pictures of it. It won't be an epic build thread but I'll hopefully make some small tweaks and improvements with inspiration from you lot.

Cheers,

Mik

So what's my first essential buy? I think topping my simple list are some R-line fog lamp surrounds

Aaargh! Must read the post in future.

LED interior lights are a nice wee upgrade. There's a thread somewhere with details of where to buy a full set.

Welcome aboard mate  :happy2:

Lost count on how many VW's iv had but after owning 4 Corrados (3 VR's and 1x Valver) I bought an Audi S3 for a short period which now has been passed to the Mrs as bought myself a MK5 GTi in Dec '13 and true say, does feel like a brand new car! Ill always have a soft spot for the Rados tho

I always loved Corrados and wanted one since they came out, my VR6 was somewhat of a love hate relationship though as I had some big chunks of bad luck with it including a gearbox failure within a week of getting it and, a few months later, a loss of oil pressure in the main timing chain tensioner leading to the chain skipping teeth and a full engine rebuild. Anyway, all that was more than a couple of years ago now and it had actually been a good car on the whole since, although I could never fully trust it.
Here are a few other pics of it, admittedly not great but they're all I have to hand right now:

I do quite like this one though:

As for the new car, I have shamefully not found the time to take any proper pictures of it yet so all I have is a quick cameraphone shot of it at home....and not even clean. Also in the background is the MkIV 1.6 SR which was sold just after that with 218,000 miles on it

Welcome dude. There appear to be so many if us that have previously owned a raddo. I rebuilt and saved a vr6 last year saving if from the scrapers.
