Cold start issues.

I've got an issue when starting my 2005 gti dsg from cold. It's taking longer than usual to fire and when it does it seems to splutter for a couple of seconds before the revs rise to normal cold start conditions.

I've done a scan and the only fault is the intake manifold runner issue I've had for a while and haven't got round to fixing - It needs a new motor.

Could this be the cause of my problems or something totally different?

I've also got a squeak on cranking but think that maybe tensioner/starter motor related......

Ok i think, although i haven't checked it. Seems fine while cranking.

Do you think it could be affecting the coils?

Afaik the intake manifold runners should be active when the car is cold at start up so having a defective motor could have some bearing on your spluttering issue.
Without traction power is nothing!

I find mine takes a turn or 2 longer to start and a second or 2 longer to settle when I've done a lot of shortish journeys. And that's been the case for the last month or 2.
Shortish journeys, cold starts, slow top speeds (sometimes I get to the heady heights of almost 50mph......
I find I need a good run on a regular basis to 'clear things out'!
The weather looks better today and tomorrow so I'm off out for a bit of a blast, before the next week of trundling through the traffic back and forth to work.
I'll post the (starting) results of the mini Italian Tune Up next week .....

My 2008 gti does exactly the same thing, changing the battery only made it turn over a bit better as before it struggled a bit. I find that if I switch the ignition on then off again then on and then start it doesn't do it, I'm guessing the pressure doesn't build up enough in the fuel system on the first turn of the key.

Second that principle as well.
I turn the ignition on, wait 2 seconds then fire the engine.
Seems to work, especially in colder weather and when the car has been left for a few hours.
I guess the fuel pressure drops and has to rebuild.

Did about 100miles of mixed motorway/A road/getting a bit of a move on when I could driving, over the weekend - Quicker start this morning and almost instant smooth idle.
Might try the 'Ron Ech?' clean this week as well......
