No longer Blake-R but.......
« on: September 30, 2009, 09:49:27 am »
Blake-Gti  :happy2:. (Could one of the mods change my username to this please)

Ok first impressions of thee new motor

On the way to the dealership i began to feel very nervous about letting my beloved Type R go, i gave it one last blast and what can i say i still love that engine and the grin factor it produces. I actually started to get cold feet at one point, but hey ho i carried on and lets just say as soon as i saw the car i knew it was time to let go. The car in question is an absolutely mint 57 plate Gti in Black with 18" Monza wheels, few extras of the top of my head

Dual climate control
Heated front leather Recaro seats (amazing!)
Upgraded speakers
ipod prep (a bit funny and need to work it out)
Auto headlights (Xenons)
Auto Wipers
Cruise control

All i can think of for now  . The build quality is vastly superior over the R, it just feels rock solid and basically just feels a nicer environment to be in. He showed me around the car and all the little bits and pieces and i knew i was going to love being in this car. Everything sorted at the dealers and I'm on my way home for a nice 70-80 mile ride. I will keep it quite short and sweet but i absolutely love the car already. I thought it would take me at least a few weeks to get used to it and i'll be honest i do miss that hi revving engine (it's a screamer :) but something just feels rite as soon as i get in it. The engine is strong and pulls fantastically through the gears (going to have to get used to driving a turbo though) and it is generally a relaxing and easier car to drive fast, as someone has stated to me before.

Fingers crossed i can't knock the car at the moment, maybe the only slight thing is the sound of the car on turnover, is it just me or does it sound a bit heavy like a diesel, but then it settles down?.

But all in all I'm over the moon, so long Type R you served me well and i will miss you but it's time for some Turbo power :driver:.

get it remapped mate and you'll soon forget about the high revving engine when you feel the extra torque you get. stage 1 remapped GTI should hit 260Ibft+ with ease. which type R was it you had, old or new shape

Hello mate.Glad you are enjoying the car,had mine 3 months now & it's the best car i have ever owned.Ref the Diesel sound keep an eye on it mate as mine & a few others have had this & it's down to a knackered cam chain & tensioner ''yes'' they have a chain as well as a belt.I had the chain & tensioner replaced last week & now the car sounds like a GTI should & not some oil burner. :driver:

sounds like the start of a beautiful relationship

you'll love the GTI

coincidently the mrs fancied an R and we took one out for a spin a while back, epic little rockets when you ride the revs but was too small

Cheers guys, just took my dad out for a spin and it does sound great when the turbo kicks in :). I'm very interested in getting the Revo stage 1 upgrade though, it must feel great.

I will definitely keep an eye on that one, cheers for the heads up. It is literally just on turn over, once you get going it's ok. Also before it left the garage it had a full service on it.

Simon i had the EP3 shape, great fun and handle very well for quite a large car.

VC the Type r wasn't big enough!!! it's like a family wagon inside haha. What shape was it you looked at?.
