It may go off again if you go for a quick drive mate, same thing happens when the car has been on a Rolling Road, may have just thrown a wobbler due to the excessive wheelspin etc?

Mine came on yesterday due to a bolt coming loose and the brake having movement in it. When I tightened it and went for a short drive it went off.  :happy2:

Same happened to me in the snow. I was wheel spinning for about 3 mins constant trying to get up a steep hill. The abs light stayed on for a day then turned off by itself once 'normal' driving had resumed.

^I have had the same at a rolling road too.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

If you were wheel spiining a lot, then chances are the traction controla and possibly the ESP system was working to keep you straight. As they use the brakes to keep you steady, it could just be that they got hot and the ABS system shut down to let things cool down.

I read a while ago on a German site that the ABS sensors monitor the situation and the ABS ECU can temporaly shut down for a few minutes to let the brakes cool down ?

Hello all, I thought I'd revive an old topic rather than starting a new one!

I was driving into work this morning with the typical stop start affair occurring.  I then got to the short dual carriageway section and accelerated with some purpose when I joined.  No wheel spin was present and it picked up like normal up to the speed limit.

After about 500m the following lights all appeared on the dash however:

* ABS
* ESP
* Tyre Pressure

I eased off and drove the remaining two miles to work, turned off the engine and then restarted the car.  The ESP and Tyre Pressure light are now out but the ABS remains.

I still have 5 months left on the warranty but the dealer is 170 miles away.  I'm hoping that when I go to the car tonight after work magic will have happened and the ABS light will be gone....but I fear it will remain!

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance,

-Mark.

You really need a vcds scan to help you to quickly find out what's the cause.
Depending on your location a fellow member may be able to assist.

Have you by any chance checked the tyre pressures? Just in case.

I'm down near Richmond if you need a VCDS scan.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

I checked the pressures on Sunday, all spot on.  I've done a little research and looks to be a fairly common problem.  Most people seem to get it when they go above a certain speed.

I've phoned the dealer I bought the car from (VW dealer) and they will take a look but they need it through the week.  The dealer is in Kirckaldy, Scotland and I'm down in Newcastle.....not sure I want to take holidays to get the bloody car fixed under warranty.  I was hoping they could authorise a dealer down here but they wont :(
