I used the VW stuff to do mine last week. Amazing difference I think it was the first change @ 92k miles.

Dealer stuff only. Give them your vin number to make sure you get the correct stuff.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

I'd say oem for everyday use, Millers for track/fast road use.
How hard can it be?

I use that Miller's grade in my Scooby and its the bees knees. Great from cold starts to slick gear changes when warmed up.

Is this what you'd call a "driveway job" or is it best for the dealers/specialist to do?

I did mine (6spd manual) in about 10 mins. Need a spline bit for early boxes (16mm) plus a funnel and tubing to get to the fill hole.

Didn't jack the car just parked the near side on the kerb. Dead easy and very satisfying job!

Go for millers, after all VW don't make their own oil, they'll just buy it off millers and write VW on the can!

As it's been a few years since the last post on this, I was wondering what everyones using for their gearbox oils? Been finding the cold shifts are fairly brutal lately so thought good time to change especially as I doubt it's been done before on my car.

Oh I wrote about it elsewhere last year. Basically I went from treacle oem to millers nt to latest thin as piss oem and the latter has been faultless from cold this winter.

Take it you just got the OEM oil from the dealership? Rather than the likes of any G52 - 75W-80?
