How can I get an aux?
« on: February 16, 2014, 07:57:48 pm »
I just bought a '06 MKV Golf Gttdi, completely standard, I want an aux, do I have any options rather than buying a new stereo? I tried a search but it didn't really tell me much.

Cheers.

Yep you can run an aux cable that VW make. Easiest in the glovebox but if you have an armrest you can put it in there which is the normal place. There are also some kits which have a square (rather than rectangular) aux bit which can go in a spare slot by gearstick

I think carsystems.pl may sell them amongst other places including ebay
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

Get a mdi interface so you can use usb stick, much better sound quality than aux apparently

I was also going to install an aux on my car but then one of my friends showed me this fm transmitter which you can connect you're phone, usb or place a memory card into. All you have to do is find an empty radio station (Usually below 90) and the sound quality comes out great! :surprised:

But this is just a suggestion by the way....

MDI are great but only work with the rcd510, RNS510 and rns310 I believe - the second generation stereos basically rather than stock ones in mk5s

Where does the aux cable go into the stereo?

Back where cd changer lead goes I think but someone can confirm I'm sure

Have one of these, pretty good and only the odd bit of interference when you drive past someone else using one.

I installed an aux/iPod cable in the back of my factory headunit worked fine. £110 I believe and to use it you double press "cd"

I went through the tedious process of installing an aux cable into the arm rest this weekend (already had the ipad box/connector installed). It's a job you can easily do yourself but it takes a fair amount of phaffing around removing trim etc. I'd definitely recommend doing it over an FM transmitter (as I was using before), the sound quality is incomparable. Most of the converters also have the ability to install a bluetooth interface (such as a parrot) and whilst you've got everything off you might as well install all 3 to future proof (ipod/aux/bluetooth).

I bought a X car link ipod interface. This enables me to use and charge I pod/phone and control tracks from.steering wheel etc... It also has a 3.5mm aux lead plus it's still.allows me to keep my cd changer.and only cost £80
