HELP!!!
« on: February 17, 2014, 12:39:47 pm »
Hi
I have a few issues with my Mk5 Golf GTI and wondered if anyone else has had similar problems and may have suggestions for a fix!
A couple of months ago after clean the engine bay my cooling fan came on by itself when the car ws parked at work.  It drained the battery.  When I put jump leads on straight away the fan fired up so thats how I knew this was the issue.  I unplugged the fan and took it to the garage to get it looked at.  On the way it lost power and the exhaust warning lightcame on.  To cut a long story short they replaced a couple of burnt out relays but couldnt find a cause so said drive it and see what happens.  3 months on and the issues returned yesterday.  I noticed that relay 167 (I think thats the number) was making nasty noises and again lost power and exhaust warning light.

We love the car and don't want to sell it.  Its a 2005 model but only has 40k on the clock!  I have had both wings replaced recently by VW so it is a very clean car but if it has an electrical issue that cant be resolved  Iwill have to think about getting rid!

If any one knows anything that may help please elet me know!

Thanks a in advance!

Adam  :happy2:

Get the car scanned with VCDS - check if you've got anyone local from here:-

There are a few common faults with various relays, ignition switch etc.
