Universal joint steering column
« on: February 15, 2014, 12:38:57 pm »
Hello guys,

Hopefully I can ask for your expertise one more time

I have removed my steering column a few days ago completely. Everything is back together, except for the universal joint where the steering pin is connected in the floor.

I just can't seem to get the joint on the connection. I am sure that the "teeth" are aligned. It seems like the joint is too tight to fit it on. I had some trouble getting it off in the first place.

Also tried some WD40, did not work. I have also used a light hammer, but it won't move a inch.
Is there any tool to support me on this? Or maybe some tips from you guys that did this before?

Thanks a lot again guys.

Regards,

Roy

Do you have it in the correct position?

It fits in anywhere, but the slot in the rack means it only has one position.

It should have a Master spline onit, Theyre always a struggle, just wiggle it as much and as hard as you can to get it on but in that postion that looks like it doesnt need to go on much more! Or just try and put the 13mm bolt back in and see what it feels like and keep an eye onit

Yea the thing is, the steering wheel itself is locked when it was removed. So I can hardly twist the pin (just a little bit).
When I put it back on and twist it as much as I can, at some point it actually goes on as far as the picture shows.

I tried it to hammer it back on as well, but I'm quite afraid to damage something.

At the position of the photo, there is no way to get the bolt in. The holes are not aligned.

Thank you all for your input!

Not sure if this will help but you could try these links on steering, within the thread below:-

I can't get them but others seem to have no problem!

Try it with the steering lock off. Sounds like too much resistance.

Thanks guys!

How does this look? I think it's on as it should be right now. Can anyone confirm it?
The unlocking did the trick. I thought unlocking would cause an alignment problem, but ofcourse there is only one way the to assemble it.

Thank you for your help!
