Hi. I'm new here and have just bought my first golf. A late 2004 GT TDI 2.0. Loving it so far. Want to upgrade the stereo and was thinking of the Rns 315 as it has Bluetooth and dab built in. I know I will need GPS antenna and DAB antenna but my question is does my car require the Can bus upgrade for this stereo? Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere. Could only really find info on the Rns 510. Many thanks in advance.

Yep you'll need a new CANBUS.

I've put an RNS 310 in mine which is similar to the 315. Suits the car well. Haven't updated the CANBUS yet as I thought I'd wait and see whether the battery drain happens. Only other thing to bear in mind is the 315 apparently only supports the BAP displays (white dot matrix) so it potentially wouldn't work with the Highline cluster in a Mk5, whereas the 310 does.

Am I correct in thinking the 310 doesn't have Bluetooth? I only have the red half MFD so not worried about it working with that at this time. Does suit the car.

Oh ok, in that case you should be fine. The 315 does indeed have bluetooth built in which the 310 lacks.

I managed to buy a new can gateway on eBay for like £37 , and I found a guy on this who was able to help me code it. Plus it was good to get a shot on vag com . If not you could just pay the extra for a precoded one.
