Offset question.

Im after a set of 18" monzas, and ive potentially found some, replicas i believe, i couldnt see bbs written anywhere on the back.

They are 18x8 and et35, the owner said he fitted them to the car, and when he went over a bump he could hear them hitting against the wheel arch, now i searched and lots of people are using this size and offset on MK5 golfs with no trouble, what can be done to stop this hitting and rubbing? because i really want these wheels, and its annoying ive found them and they arent right.

Roll or pull the archers
 18x8 et 35 shouldn't be an issue anyway.

It will rub on the front under hard bumps at speed or when bumping up/down/over things at low speed at near to full lock especially with 225/40 tyres.
I know this because my GTI came with 18 inch replica wheels which were.... 18x8 et 35 and on the test drive it scrubbed on a big bump at high speed.

They are definitely replicas with that offset and width.

so what are the sizes of genuine monzas and shadows then? and how much is it to roll the arches typically and how exactly does that look?

17 or 18 x 7.5 et 51...

It doesn't change the look of the arches at all and the prices vary depending on where you have them done. A mate of mine did them for £45 for me... most places charge double that.

so if you fitted 215 tyres, thatd give a little stretch look im guessing right? would that help to not rub? Also ive noticed the wheels sit back from the arches, so i want spacers to move them inline with arch, im guessing if you did that with 8's thatd rub like a bitch?

Pull and roll arches.  I've got 18x8.5j front et35 tyres 215/35 and lts lowered and wing on the same level as tyres and does it rub? Not at all. Maybe 3 time in 2 months that's down the hill on the sharp conner )))

This should answer any and all quesitons you have. If not please post back up (here or in that thread) and I'll try to help you.

215 tyres on a 8 will give virtually no stretch at all but they would give a few MM of clearance... 205/40s would be better.
But you can't just willy-nilly change things unless you know what you're doing.. just stick with genuine wheels to be honest and put 10mm on the front and 15mm on the rear.

After only just noticing the wheel guide in your sig, i think im all sorted now, the offset was what got me, i thought adding a 10mm spacer would make it et45 and would fit better, but itd actually make it et25.

I ran 19.8.5 and didn't scrape, 18x8 with 215's will be fine, but pull and roll them
Just for a bit extra clearance
