New Discs/pads

Hi All,

Bit of advice please.

I am taking my car back to the dealer next week as they are doing my new discs/pads all round for £55 + Vat.

I wanted to check this is a good price as the reason they gave me this price was due to my car having to have a new engine after 3 months and me contributing £500. So I negotiated some deals going forward with them.

So checking is this a good price is not the real question but thought I would check this while posting this.

The second and real question is I am looking at spraying my calipers red so am I better doing them before the pads/discs are replaced as then if I do accidentally get some paint on the discs/pads they will get replaced. However my worry is if when replacing my discs/pads they damage the paint on calipers so would have to respray possibly so if waited until replaced I would not have this worry

Well that is what I thought but I agreed this with them as part of several discounts they gave as a result of them selling me a car with a duff engine.

With regard to painting your calipers red, I would personally take off the calipers and the hangers and have them shot blasted to remove all the debris then blown over with an air gun to remove excess dust, get some thinners or panel wipe to de grease them and then get them painted

the key is in the preparation, ive seen so many cars that look really botched as they have been wire brushed for 5mins and had a tin of paint sprayed on and it looks all nasty after a week as it starts peeling off

im a firm believer if a jobs worth doing its worth doing well

A lot more than that, probably between 300-400. Take it to them and let them do it for 55+.... bargain.

£55 plus vat? Man, that's gonna be really cheap & nasty pads & discs. Certainly won't be OEM quality I bet.

I am going to double check as know they were giving me a deal to make up for the duff engine but from what people are saying that is a cheap quote. It might be just the pads or disc replacements maybe. Also presumed they would use cheap replacements anyway

If that's £55 + vat for OEM - go for it!
My local stealer offered me a special of £235 for rear discs and pads a month or 2 ago.

£563 from Quick Fit or £438 @ VW.

Got yourself a good deal but cheap discs are available for £22 as are pads, so it could be a good or bad deal depending on the fitted parts

I would make sure they aren't from the the VW Economy range that TPS now stock..
