Gti is going back (video added)
« on: October 03, 2009, 03:09:59 pm »
Well with under a week under my belt with the Gti i am returning it to the dealers to be fully checked over. Over the last few days i have not been happy with a couple of things. i have already mentioned a few on here already and i would rather get it sorted out sooner rather than leave it. First off is the sound of the car on turnover, sounds quite ropey, and i wouldn't expect a Gti to sound like this. The fan is ridiculously noisy, i will try posting up a video of this. The brakes have started to squeak quite badly and also a big rattle from the back seats.

A little annoying as i absolutely love the car and don't want to take it back but i know these things are going to bug me if i don't. Fingers crossed it's nothing major though  :sad1:.

Can you tell me if yours is the same?

Mines the same, perhaps maybe turn off the aircon to see if the fan stops?

Well i guess if a few peoples are the same thats not so bad. But that still seems extremely loud compared to any other car i have heard. I have the AC switched off all the time really.

I know they are all supposed to sound a bit clattery but have to say mine us nowhere near as loud as that mate - in fact I had my head under the hood earlier with the engine running and it was hardly making any noise at all - mines got 10k miles on it so wonder if it's something that worsens with mileage?

Hmmm now this is the thing that has got me concerned, i don't see how the same cars can vary so differently. Mine has got 20k on it.

i had the same with mine a few months back and it ticks and rattles loudly when cold, eventually got it sorted under warrenty and was the cam belt. mine is now silent and all i can hear when turning the ignition is the exhaust, just how it should be. good luck getting it sorted  :happy2:

Did you not?? . I actually joked with my GF earlier about how loud the fan is, and said people walking past must avoid it cause they think it's going to blow or something lol

Now thats what i like to hear silent as a whistle, although it would be nice to have a little growl on turnover. I think this could be the problem them. Should a cam belt go after 20k though? or does it not really matter time wise to much?
