Cost of Colour Coding Lower Bumper
« on: March 01, 2014, 10:05:20 am »
Hi All,

Due to get my replacement GTI Bumper on Monday thanks to Simon_2.0t but wanted to ask what sort of price I should be looking at for colour coding all of the lower part apart from the strip that runs along the top of exhaust if I have explained that correctly

This includes a brand new OEM bumper as well. Price is steep though but the work is apparently good.

I presume that Ebay add cost is mostly for the new Bumpers but that is exactly what I want.

Looking at the price you are getting even if you split it even over the 3 sections you are getting done then it is £100 per section which is maybe not that bad but never paid for it before so not sure what a good price is. Although my front lower splitter is black so would probably get that done too  :happy2:

On my old MK4 I painted my own but with the MK5 want the professional job.

It's the textured bit that's a PITA otherwise it would've been a straight primer and paint job.

Yeah I did my grill on the MK4 but was not textured.

Googled a few places in Derby so may contact them and see how much they will charge

Beware of cowboys that will tell you it's OK to paint over the textured bits and will do the work without taking the parts off the car.

Hi Fergus  :happy2:

The eBay link is just for the lower section, not a complete bumper.

Looking forward to seeing the bumper on mate

To give you idea of price a local bodyshop I always use, not the cheapest but I feel the best work. Where going to charge me £300 to get the side skirts smoothed then colour coded, and the lower rear section of the bumper smoothed (apart from very lower bit by exhaust) and the complete rear bumper painted.

Yeah I am going to get a quote for lower rear bumper apart from the exhaust part and also my front splitter and see what they say.

I am so eager I need to resist fitting it when get it next week until I have it sprayed but am tempted to stick it on to see how it looks until it has to come off and go into the paint shop  :happy2:

If you can get hold of an orbital sander, you can sand down the textured bits and take it to the bodyshop to cut costs seen as you haven't fitted the bumper.

Right so emailed a company in derby which had some good reviews and there response was

£150+VAT for the Lower Rear Bumper to be sprayed excluding the strip above the exhaust and would take around 2 days

I also asked anout getting the front lower splitter done which they quoted the same price.

Does this sound like a good price and seems a little high looking at what other people have quoted they got theirs done for.

This is the company that I and avoid few others used for colour coding -  excellent work

Here is a whole thread about it  :happy2:

Looks definitely a good deal however I have bought a GTI full rear Bumper off Simon_2.0t off here so only need the spray but on the quote I got they are wanting £150+VAT for just the spray so unless that is a well expensive quote it does not seem to be much cheaper if you are only asking for a spray as opposed to the new Bumper also.

If I was to go down this route I would have to sell mine and the ones I have just bought as otherwise I would end up with three whole Bumpers and that is greedy
