FMIC + Remap
« on: February 27, 2014, 12:59:25 pm »
Hi All,

Just wondering what sort of gains I should expect to see after fitting a Front Mount Intercooler to my Mk5 GTI followed my a Live Remap and of course changing the Diverter Valve to the DV+

I will be booking it in, in the next few weeks :)

Cheers,
Chris

Not a lot of gains but you will get a little, especially as it is already cool. in the summer losses will be less though with a FMIC. A FMIC is fitted to reduce boost drop and keep the temps cool within the system. Therefore to say you see gains is true, but not necessarily accurate as all an efficient intercooler will do is maintain the power from the engine better and so the car will be quicker compared to OEM. You will sometimes see a drop in torque with an aftermarket FMIC too. With a live remap you may see more gains, but this would be attributed more to a live map.

Cheers mate, what sort of power would you expect it to achieve after a map then?

After a map from stock you should see good gains on a GTI - around 50-60bhp. On an ED30 you should see 70+bhp gain.

wasn't expecting quite so much. glad I'm investing in a FMIC if it is going to make around 250

You'd probably see the same increase without the FMIC there mate, like Hurdy says it just helps to improve the cold air temps for your turbo. You'll only really notice a difference with a FMIC when its warm weather on a stage 1 map.

can't be a bad thing getting one tho :) I need new pipes anyway so I may as well get one. not sure if it makes a difference but my mates Ibiza FR made 11 bhp more after fitting a FMIC. after some more research it looks like I will also hold more boost for longer with an uprated intercooler

GTI has a FMIC as standard so the gains aint going to be great unless your pushing the car ie Stage2+ etc

would the general opinion be that getting one would be a waste of time? apparently the boost pipes on mine are pretty naff and will keep popping off after a map (they already have before mapping it) so I will need uprated pipes anyway, then a universal cooler on the net is circa £80

Metal ended S3 cooler would be the best upgrade at your level of tune I would say
