Rattling sound inside RNS510 - solved
« on: March 01, 2014, 09:59:03 am »
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else has had the same problem with their RNS unit..

I recently bought one off ebay to stick in my mk5. Once it was fitted, I went for a drive and noticed a tapping/rattling sound coming from the unit  so I took the bloody thing back out again and tried to find the source of the rattle...

I but thr bullet and decided to open the top of the unit (breaking the warranty void sticker) and immediately found the source of the rattle - The built-in hard drive is secured against the left-hand side of the casing by a couple of screws, and the front one was very loose, causing a surprisingly loud rattle when the disk spins up / when the car travels over rough road surfaces.

Tightened up the screw, problem solved!  :happy2: if only all rattles were solved that easily!
