New timing belt after 10k?

We got the timing belt and water pump changed on my wife's Clio 197. This job is renowned for being a pain in the ass. It cost about £420! Now the water pump is slowly leaking coolant. It was less than 18 months ago, am I within my rights to get this sorted for free? The car sometimes squeels, but I could not tell if it was the aux belt or timing belt pulley.

If you spray a lubricant on visible parts of the aux belt once and once only while engine is running the squealing should stop if the squeeling does not stop then you know is not the axillary belt. Timing belt is hard to test without removing parts of it to see for wear. Usually timing belt life is 4 years or 60k whatever comes first!

Genuine parts often have a 2 year warranty, so definitely worth investigating to see if you can get this sorted free of charge.

Do Renault offer 2 year warranty as well on their parts like VW?

I would hope that they at least contribute. The reason I mentioned the speaking is that perhaps the belt was tensioned too much, causing the bearings to squeak and water pump gasket to leak. Sound plausible? I mean, return the car with the argument that the belt was too tight, rather than component failure.

If it was me:-

I would just ask them first what they thought the noise in question is, then if they confirm it's something which I've paid for in a previous bill,I ask if they offer support for an abnormal warranty claim to cover the repair! (since they seem to only cover their parts and labour for 12 months!)

I would take it back to where you got it fixed. I would have thought parts should be on a 2 yr warranty.

They have said that because it is over a year, they are not interested. After a moan, they have offered to knock an hours labour off. Now I have 3 options from them.
1. New pump, old belt(14k miles) £323
2. New pump, new belt £370
3. New pump, new belt, new tensioners £450

I'm leaning towards 2. Any advice?
Obviously not buying a Clio in the first place. Just thought I would get that in first.lol

Might as well do the whole lot as there isn't too much in the price between 2/3 when you look at the cost of the tensioner + VAT + labour in the future. The extra £80 would seem worth forking out for now?

Id complain to Renault HQ and state the part is not fit for purpose, that you will write to various magazines and papers to high light the issue to other  consumers. Most manufacturers don't like bad press and will look to compensate you in some way.

Get on to Renault customer service. Having worked for Renault as a tech they are very good. My timing belt went on my 2010 k9k clio 5 months outside the 3 year warranty and they replaced the engine. But the best bet is to deal with them, they should deal with the dealer too and get back to you.
