LPFP Upgrade- Facts inside
« on: March 02, 2014, 02:21:09 pm »
Well my car (S3) is currently running a stage 2+ R-Tech map giving a healthy 353bhp & 400lb/ft or torque. I'm going back to see Nick next week to have some work done on my DSG box (development work as he's not done my model one before) So I asked if he do do some more mapping on my engine, I was going to get a turbo discharge pipe, as I thought that's all I had left to buy lol.

I started to look into the RS3 LPFP and thought it wasn't worth it but then a friend said he was getting one for his ED30 so it got me thinking and I did some logging of my LPFP only to see it does get a bit low (see bellow) When he fitted the RS3 pump in his the car didn't like it all sorts of fuel cut, power on and off.

So we thought to try it in my car to rule out if the pump was at fault... It's staying in now!!!, see bellow:

Standard Pump

Standard pump duty

RS3 Pump

RS3 duty

As you can see the standard pump drops to around 3.8 bar with the pump duty over 90% whereas the RS3 pump produces 4.5 at 70%

Hope some people find it of some use

Does your fuel gauge tank reading show correctly for the varying volume of fuel in your tank?
Without traction power is nothing!

Yeh it's only 2wd that have that problem, we made sure the float was the same as mine and it was.

I've been fitting these for well over 18 months with no issues with fuel cut (I supply the correct blank with tthe pump) and no issues with the level on Fwd cars.

Fwd do not have any issues if fitted correctly.

This was my mistake sorry Alex, I didn't fit the blank hence why I was losing pressure. School boy error.

I might buy another pump for mine, my standard pump does 4.8 bar at the top end which was surprising, on Hayden's S3 though we found a massive difference like you can see above, I think some pumps are good and some bad?

I should have said that the FWD ones have no issues with the level sensor if fitted correctly.  Wasn't aiming that at anyone.

4.8 bar at the top end is good for a stock pump.  Most drop off like the S3 one did.  Do you know was duty cycle yours is running at?

The newest revision of stock pump is actually quite good.

I thought the arm hit the side of the tank when it was around the mid point? You could move the pump around but then the hoses wouldn't reach on top?

I'll log mine again later with the duty, I'd imagine it's fairly high. My pressure started off at 6 then gradually dropped off to 4.8. I'd imagine my pump would fuel enough for 400bhp?

Doesn't quite touch.  If you have the newer style pump, then you can use the level sensor from that.

What is the correct fitting instructions for these pumps?
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

I think mine dropped so much coz Nick had mapped it with the standard FPRV and I've fitted the RS4 one now so it's harder for the Low pressure side to supply it.
