Expensive and hard to find 18" tyres
« on: March 02, 2014, 11:20:12 pm »
Im thinking of buying some brand new high quality rims 18", now the rims cost £600 ALONE no tyres what so ever.

Now I know that its extremely hard to find second hand 18" in good condition so what do most people do?

Do they blow 300-400 on new tyres?

Buy new ones... If you can't afford rubber... Then don't buy the rims (IMO)

Don't skimp on rubber!

Would you go for tesco's own condoms... Or durex?  :signLOL:

Expect to pay £400-£500 for decent 18" road tyres.

What are the wheels?  :popcornsoda:

Yeah, 18 inch tyres are slightly expensive. Unless you compare them to 19's or any run flat tyres. If you run 18" wheels (or want to buy them) then you need to budget (put money aside for) to replace or buy tyres. If you are looking at fairly usual/standard wheels for the Golf then you'll need 225/40/R18 tyres. These are about the cheapest 18" tyre size, you'll be glad to know.  :happy2:

Also Camskill have a good deal on Goodyear F1 tyres at the min. £90 each here:

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s134p109670/Goodyear_Tyres_Car_Goodyear_Eagle_F1_Asymmetric_2_-_225_40_R18_92Y_XL_FP_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB

OR you can go for budget tyres. I've run Falken ZE912's and Kumho KU39's on my diesel Golf (180bhp then, 170bhp now) and haven't crashed.

Hope this helps.

Vredestein (think that's how you spell it) are very grippy tyres. I had a set of 18's on my mk4 Golf that lasted about 20k miles (2 bad winters as well!).

Sub £450 for 4 tyres is good. Try paying close to £800 for M5 tyres :-(

They also do a super budget Achilles ATR Sports on camskill. £38 each. Would be like driving on a ice rink I reckon. Would not spend that on 15 inch wheels.

2x Falken ZE914 Tyres in the Classifieds - £150 delivered

Plus 2 from Camskill - £172 delivered

Total (4x Falkens) = £322 delivered, get them fitted at a local friendly garage (NOT Kwikfit).

Or 4x Vred Ultrac Sessantas = £323 delivered.
