Problems removing Rear Bumper
« on: March 04, 2014, 03:23:47 pm »
Thought I would post here rather than having it just attached to my other topic which is around Colour Coding.

I am trying to remove my whole Rear Bumper

I have undone all three torx screws in the arches on either side and also removed the lights fine and the torx screws underneath these. Also removed the 2 torx screws underneath near each wheels where it had some of the inner arch attached.

I am however hitting problems with the ones in the pics below as in the 2 screws in the arches I cannot see what torx or type they are and when get a torx slotted in it just seems to mangle the screw so help here please.

Also the 2 underneath in the pics, can get to them fine but they turn slowly with massive amount of pressure on them and do not seem to be getting loose so am I doing something wrong here

Well no joy still,

I have managed to get the 2 screws undone which were under the wheel arch.

Got one out clean after some tugging and pushing but the other one did not and the actual upper part of the bumper I am removing was damaged where the screw hole was  :sad1:

The other 2 under the car in the other pics I just cannot get off, the torx hole are just shaving away when try to unscrew and cannot even seem to lever them out even if they get damaged and I can buy some new ones so I am really stuck here as totally soaked them in WD40

Bumper back on with some holding screws until I figure out what to do  :sad1:

once them ones on the bottom get rusty they can seize up quite easily, other than sawing the heads off the trying to screw it back in , using pipe gripe or mole grips.

once they are out re tap the hole buy new ones use copper grease on the threads, sorry i cant be more help

infact if you really want to get adventurous find something to protect bumper, get a file and file 2 flats opposite each other on the head, get a good adjustable spanner and get em out

Thanks Chaps for the advice.

Think I have resigned myself to knowing these are coming out damaged no matter how I do it.

Mole grips sounds good but cannot seem to get enough gap between the Head and the bodywork to likely be able to fit the mole grips on but will have a go at this maybe at the weekend now.

My other thinking is just chopping the head off which will free the bumper and then deal with the rest of the screw once I have more room. Probably need to get a little hacks saw or something to do that

If you want the head off drill it out, you have a torx hole in the center to start it off

Does seem like the quicker option but with my skills my next photo will be of the drill poking through into the boot  :rolleye:

I have a drill but not a hack saw so might try the drill first.

Will update at the weekend  :happy2:

How did you manage to get enough gap between the screw head and bodywork?

Cheers mate although I blame you for selling me a rear bumper at a good price which started me off haha.

Hopefully will get sorted this weekend when have more time to cut these torx screws out and then fit the new bumper
