Mk5 rear diffuser removal
« on: March 05, 2014, 03:33:50 am »
Hi I've been trying to search for this question, but to no avail. What I would like to know is can the rear diffuser be removed on a MK5 golf gti? I have noticed Americans and Austrialians being able to change their rear diffuser, but haven't found anyone who has done this in the UK. The diffuser is the bottom part of the bumper.

Most people in the Uk have just colour coded the rear valence and left the rear diffuser plastic If Im correct? I dont really like the this sort of look to be honest with you  :P What options do I have? Edition 30 bumper? lol.

You can remove the lower part of the bumper in no more that 20 minutes

Easier to remove the entire bumper assembly completely and probably quicker.  Clipping the lower section back in place with the upper still on the car is a PITA due to the fact the clips are tight and the bumper is very flexible, particularly around the number plate, much easier to have it on the floor so you can press the clips in against a solid surface.   :happy2:

It's definitely not quicker to remove the complete bumper

I agree mate, defo just take the whole bumper off! Really easy process. Removing just the valance is a Pain to put back on

Thanks for the replies. I think people are a bit confused about what Im trying to say. What I want is the rear diffuser to come off, not the valence. The rear diffuser is where the exhaust comes out off.

You can do that on the r32, but the Americans probably have a thunder bunny rear bumper. Do you mean this bumper!

The rear bumper is only in 2 parts on standard golfs up to the gti, the edition 30 rear valance is one piece also.

Votex rear valance has a removable part and the R32 valance also had a 'trim' around the exhausts that comes off.

What valance do you have?

think your best bet would be to fit r32 lower rear section and measure up mk6 golf or some audi diffuser sections and try to get one to fit

Osir and srs-tec.de do inserts for r32 lower bumpers and Osir also do different ones for normal gti bumpers
