Wheel bolts
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:15:41 am »
This is going to seen like a very stupid question. In fact no, it IS a stupid question but unfortunately i need to ask.
The wheel bolts on my car look like this:

To me they look like i need a torx bit to undo them. I'm used to using a 17mm socket on my old car so im just very confused.

There just caps covering the 17mm bolts! There is a proper tool to remove them, could be in with your spare tyre?

Check this link for more info

Thought i'd bump this thread as i've got more problems/questions.

After having a new tyre fitted today, i realised i didn't have any locking wheel nuts on the rear wheels. Went to the fronts and took off the caps. Both front wheels have the locking wheel nuts, but i dont have a bloody key for them!! I'm going to order some aftermarket wheel nuts off ebay later on

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALLOY-WHEEL-LOCK-BOLTS-FOR-VW-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-GTI-Mk4-Mk5-Mk6-LOCKING-NUTS-6R-/321043468994?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyres_Trim_Nuts_ET&fits=Plat_Gen%3AMK+V%7CModel%3AGolf&hash=item4abfae92c2

Probably will get them, or some others but the correct specs are M14 x 1.5 with a radius/ball seat. The threads are 28mm long, correct?

Other than that, does any one in sheffield have a key, or think they have a key i can use for these locking wheel nuts when my new bolts arrive?

EDIT: Just found this on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-New-Volkswagen-Audi-Skoda-Seat-Locking-Wheel-bolt-Key-Code-000-10-Spline-/151230879408?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyres_Trim_Nuts_ET&hash=item23361016b0 i think its what i need :happy2:

It just look like a spline drive. With a decent set of spline sets you will hopefully find one that fits. I have the tools here but unfortunately I'm a little far away from you but I'm sure someone in sheffield should be able to lend you.
