The last pic of me coming out of O'Rouge is my favourite by far. The porker in the first pic wasn't happy when I went past him on the long uphill straight before the chicane . Neither were the guys in the Exige and the Imprezza

OHHH YESH!!

Well done Spa lads, that looks like epic fun. Really want to drive that soon!

How many times did your brain tell you NO NO NO when someone was telling you to keep it planted in Eau Rouge?

The trip looked great, hopefully our paths will all cross on the one next year  :drinking:

Urban myth (unless you are Schumacher). If I'd done that I'd be wearing wings and a halo now!

You at least have to dab the brakes as you hit the compression at the bottom of Eau Rouge otherwise you have a 150mph off camber crest and bend to negotiate at the exit :scared: Even at 120mph it is damn scary!

Golf R gone.

As Hurdy says - It's a total urban myth. You should brake just before the first left hand apex, drop down to 3rd and then floor it. Not carry all your max speed into the bottom of Eau Rouge because you'll then find yourself in a potentially dangerous mess at the top of the hill when that blind lefthand apex suddenly appears. It's more logical but not as effective to carry as much speed as you can into that steep hill but our cars have enough power to accelerate up it. I'm saying this with the benefit of having an instructor on board for a long session of about 15 laps.

Yes, that's what I mean - entering at the correct speed and then keeping your foot in through the compression, when the car is doing all sorts of strange things and your brain is saying AAAGGHHHH!!!...

Kinda like Foxhole at the Ring, lift/brake and you lose it, you've got to commit no matter what speed you're doing once you're in it.

I wasn't suggesting you keep it flat from the straight!!
Sideways yo!

Personally I prefer Spa to The Ring. I think it's because it's easier to learn and most importantly it's not full of every idiot trying to do a lap time irrespective of what they are driving or their ability. Too many go there for the wrong reasons - IMO.

One of the guys in our group was a very nice chap but a retired London double decker bus driver, was absolutely horrified by Hurdy's driving as a passenger (he is far safer than his reputation might be and is very focussed) and nearly took me out by not using his mirrors on the way there!

Robin, obviously this is your opinion and I cannot argue with that but I find your comment rather bizzare to say the least! You go to the Ring for your first ever track experience and love it! So much so you have it in your sig and buy some 'track focused' alloys. You then do you first ever track day at a more conventional circuit then you rubbish the Ring for everything it stands for?

Not everyone can afford a track day at Spa but can afford the odd lap at the Ring. And that is the reason the place has the unique atmosphere it does. On one hand you can have a 120k Porsche and on the other a 20 year old Astra, and for me that is part of the magic of the place.

Don't be too quick to dismiss the place as it has a very special place in many peoples hearts. Yes you get the odd moron there but you do so in all walks of life.  :happy2:
