Fitting mdi to old school iPod unit
« on: March 30, 2014, 12:46:57 pm »
Got a mk5 gti, I've updated to the rcd510 a year or so back but want to update the iPod docking station in the armrest to a mdi unit.
I've searched and searched but can't get the hang off filtering things down in the search options. So apologise if this has been asked numerous times:
Can I just swap the iPod dock with the mdi dock and use the original wiring that's in place, do I need to change the connector to the mdi or do I need to run a complete new cable?

I've got a couple of mdi units out of the polo, however this does not come with the plastic housing so can I buy the housing and bolt the mdi unit to the housing or do they come as a complete unit?

Part numbers will be much appreciated as I've got 3 cars to do this to,
The girlfriends gti that has the rcd510 with iPod armrest
My gti that has rcd no mdi and no iPod armrest ( will need everything )
And mothers tiguan that has rns315 that has armrest but no mdi or iPod

Thanks in advance

hi mate

firstly you will need to replace the loom as its totally different.

the polo units will be fine, you can't buy the armrest casing, when people remove them they are a b@@ch to get out so break.

ill drop you a pm to help
