Best tyres?
« on: March 06, 2014, 06:46:43 pm »
After having my remap done and now having a large amount of torque its highlighted the need for premium tyres.(previous owner put sava tyres on the front) The BMW forum i used to be on raved about good year asymmetric 2 tyres.

What are your thoughts on the best tyres?

You'll find equally on this forum that many recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 as well. The Michelins Pilot Sport 3 (PS3) get rave reviews as well but pricey though.

I'll put my vote in for assy 2's,

I don't know if they're THE BEST but certainly excellent and not the most expensive.

Also - I have 2 Michelin PS3's and 2 assy 2's on my car. Personally prefer the goodyears (although the michelins are a couple of years old so probably not fair to compare them to brand new goodyears

If you can get a set of michelin pilot sport 3s, you will not fit anything else.

cheers, I cant just plant the accelerator down anymore without the wheels spinning up especially in 2nd but surely better tyres will help. At the moment even 3rd in the dry spins and to some degree this is probably due to the tyres.

Never had super sports but only here positives from them. Currently using dunlop sportmaxx and they dont feel as grippy as the pilot sports, but they came with the alloys

I had 4 Michellin PS3's fitted yesterday 225/40/18 92Y @ £122 a corner.

Not as pricey as people say if you can find the right supplier.  In my case, my local VW dealer price matched my usual tyre fitter (and saved me a 20 mile drive to my parents town where the tyre shop is based).

I have the F1 assy2 as standard on my Focus ST250 in the dry they are brilliant but they are summers tyres only and if its damp and cold outside they are dam right scarey, I can spin up in 4th gear if theres even the slightest of damp on the roads. I will definitely change to either uniroyal rainsport 2 or michelin ps3?

Some one mentioned Dunlop Sportmaxx RT's?? but never used Dunlop so not sure on them

GYF1v2... fine in the wet. No.. not as good in the dry, but no worse than any other summer tyre.
