auto lights...not so auto?

My car is beginning to annoy me with its electronic "issues"

Where is the light sensor? my auto lights now stay on non stop despite the sun beating down on my car!

i've noticed on the roc the autolights come on automatically if you exceed three figures on the speedo, not checked this out on the golf

It's above 90mph on the Golf IIRC.

Sometimes they just seem more sensitive than others (does that make sense?).....I reckon about 90% of the time they work within what I would call acceptable limits....the other 10% it appears that the logic is less than robust.  On those occasions a tunnel exit the lights come on but do not switch off when in full sun for waaay too long a period. It was all tested under warranty and the stealer found no issue.

- follow you home when locking the car in low light
- auto on for a period of time spend over 90mph but will switch off when
you stay under 10mph (not sure but i think its 10mph) for 5 minutes
- auto on in dazzle conditions, ie bright sunlight
- auto on in low light

this is with the switch into the auto postition btw

they should also auto level from ignition with a minimum of 2 movements
 

edit: is your windshield clean? the sensor lives on the reverse of your rear view mirror facing out behind the glass, as you look into your car from the front its the dark square patch in the middle at the top

Its 140kph for over so many seconds - 30 I think, then they switch off if you drive under 60kmph (I think it is, around 40mph anyway) again for so many seconds/minutes

The light sensor I understand in actually in the windscreen where the auto wipers sensor is - the one of the rear of the mirror is for the auto dimming mirror (and wing mirrors if you have them).  If this is dirty of greasy it can effect it sometimes.

Mine does all these. The fact that they're on when it's sunny confuses me but I've found it can be accurate most of the time.

I'm sure I read you can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor via VAGCOM but obviously it will require trial and error to get the right setting and it still won't be perfect.

I used to get mine switching on at dusk when the sun was bright - its the only time which I thought 'whats it doing' other than that I think they are a great idea.

thanks for the replys guys! i still havent done more than about 85....personally see no reason too so i dont think its the speed thing.

im going to hopfully be giving it its 1st clean some time soon so will make sure i get the sensor. i didnt realise the lights come on if its very sunny haha that seems silly but im going to put that down to the cause of the issue!

Next problem:

open my sunroof, turn the switch to close it and it doesnt move?? i have to move the switch to the position so the roof will raise at the back then the roof will close and raise at the back, then i can move it to the closed position?

When i get a text or a call and im operating my windows at the same time they will either stop, go all the way down or all the way up.... any ideas?

Sunroof - what about if you move the dial to almost closed - does it then almost shut?

Windows - if the window detects something in the way it will open the windows all the way, it will also do this if there is a problem with the window control module -(I had 2 replaced on mine).  You can reset by pressing down and holding for a few seconds once completely open, then closing - again holding the button up until its closed - I think you have to do this twice.
