Intake manifold motor, Help!
« on: March 08, 2014, 12:53:00 am »
Hi all

I know it sounds pretty stupid but hope you guys can give me some advice.
So my gti's just been in for a pre-inspection at the local VW service centre after getting my freshly imported MKV Gti about 2 weeks ago from a dealer.. (i know i should've done it BEFORE I bought the car...just been too busy with work damnit.)

The result shows
'Intake manifold flap motor faulty - needs replacing.'
'Lower control arm bushes worn'
'rear tail light dim'.

What worries me is the intake manifold motor.
Did anyone have to replace it?
The guy at VW centre quotes me the part itself will cost about $1k which sounds a bit ridiculous to me.
Sounds like i'm getting ripped off..

I live in New Zealand, so the cost of the part might be different so i'll do the maths if you give me the figures haha

anyways, if there are anyone from NZ here it would be great to discuss how to go about it.

Cheers guys

Eric

Have you tried a reset in VCDS? If not you can do a reset for the unit and watch the angle change as it does so! If it doesn't reset or alter then the fault is permanent in some way. Check the wiring between the manifold flap motor unit and the ECU. A few have been known to show this fault and for it to be the wire. If this checks out ok then it is likely to be the unit. :happy2:
Golf R gone.

Thanks for the advice Hurdy! I will tell the mechanic to try that. Should've asked the mechanic if he'd done it just to rectify the defect. I guess that's the logical steps haha I'm very new to VWs and cars with electronic gadgets so i have lots to learn!

If it helps ? the dealer price to replace the motor here in the UK is £195 including VAT and it's around 1 hours labour.

Thanks for the comments! seems like it was overpriced. yea my engine is AXX and I hear some things about AXX engine like it's not as strong as BWA, BPY and such? i mean performance tuning wise. worries me a bit..
In the meanwhile I will have to order some parts just in case they decide to fail at some stage. Always good to have parts in stock! haha

Good info cheers mate! For 1 hour work and the part they quoted me $1k. hmmm im not so sure if I can trust this VW service centre.. or is it just the premium that I have to pay for their service? I wonder..
