Pre cat and De Cat
« on: March 12, 2014, 11:06:28 pm »
Okay, Im gonna remove the pre cat. I have searched on here, read the benefits and know how easy it would be to do.

I want to remove the main cat aswell, I have seen one bloke on here who has made a neat cut into his cat removed the internals and TIG welded back up to a standard which makes it very un-obvious that it has been fettled.

The part I am questioning is that I know pre cat removal may put CEL on but its very unlikely and main cat removal will definitely through it up. Now I understand that this is mapped out when upgrading your car to stage 2 to software, I plan on going stage one in the coming months so I should be able to get it done then? I understand that it is just coded out on the ECU. I can put up with the CEL light being on but I cant put up with the car going into limp mode, which it shouldn't do? Or will it?

You'll be fine, just the light which will need coding out.

Why would you remove the cat, gut the internals and then weld the cat case back into the exhaust? It will still show high emissions on MOT tests. Your better off bolting a straight pipe into the exhaust then come MOT time just swap it out for the cat.
