Induction Kits

I have been looking around at a few Induction Kits for my car mainly to improve the the air intake but also to have a nicer sound when accelarating.

I know it will not improve bhp so wondere what my options are as have seen basic ones for £40 up to a few hundred

I presume you mean in the how to guides in here so I will have a scan.

Have seen articles where it mentions making one yourself. Might have a look and see if my limited skills could stretch to it

Really depends on your budget? Bank on £250-£420 ish for a tried and trusted one.


EVOMS makes very good CAI and it costs around £300, ITG/VWR and REVO CAI's are around £400 each. Don't bother with the Forge Twintake or the cheap REVO or the AMD one. Some of those homemade ones look good too just make sure you buy the section that attaches to the turbo (from Forge) as the MAF sensor ideally needs to be in a certain place IIRC.

I've had the ITG Maxogen, the EVOMS and now have the latest REVO one. As mentioned, they're all good. EVOMS for cha cha cha, ITG for a pronounced impression of Darth Vader's whooosssssh diiisssssssshh and the REVO for something in the middle of the 2.

What specific parts would I need for a DIY intake. I am thinking of buying the parts separate but want to make sure I am getting all the bits. I have seen some cheap induction kits going on which if not for my specific car then I presume I could use some bits which are universal and likely have to find alternative housing etc to fit in my car.

I am thinking all I need is

CONE AIR FILTER
FLEXIBLE or RIGID COLD AIR HOSING
SOME JUBILEE CLIPS
SOME MOUNTING BRACKETS
SOME SILICONE HOSE ADAPTORS

One kit I have seen is this PART NUMBER- ACCDA85-150  which looking on the site it says Universal but presume I would need to buy the relevant hosing and brackets?

But also it depends on what IC is fitted and other parts. The intake is but one restriction on air flow. Others are inlet pipes, boost pipes, IC design and also the design of the head and valves. Plus you need to make sure the intake has a properly scaled maf housing to ensure it has the correct trim readings. Even being of slightly out  can have a massive effect on how the engine operates. I found that just by  changing all the engine mounts changed the sound of the engine with the oe airbox.
I am not a big believer in intakes on road cars as you do sacrifice low end for top end power. I always look at what part of the power band you drive in everyday.  99% will be below 4000rpms so you don't really benefit from an intake. Plus when I went from an intake to the oe cover. If you want more noise Id change the exhaust. You wont notice the 10ish bhp you lose top end without an intakes but you will notice the loss in low end torque.

Sorry to be  :stupid: but I am not sure if that reply was to me or another post as did not understand most of it  :ashamed:

If it was to me and sorry if it answers above but what I am trying to work out is of the parts like the cone, housing, air intake hose etc what is actually universal and what is specific to the car you need to put it on. I mean for instance parts like the hose adapters and clips I presume are totally universal as opposed to the cones fileter which may need to be an exact size for your specific car. I might be talking crap though  :happy2:
