Newbie thinking about Ed30
« on: May 28, 2014, 05:35:17 pm »
Hi guys
New on here and looking to find out more about the Ed 30.
I've owned a Mk5 GTI 200ps before and sold a couple of yrs ago due to company car arrival, but changing jobs soon so looking to buy again.

The GTI I had had the following spec:
- Steel Grey
- Xenons
- Sunroof
- Winter Pack
- Electric folding mirrors
- Leather

Not sure whether I'll be able to find an Ed 30 with that spec, and I would need 5 door.  !

Welcome mate, you wont regret buying an Edition 30 when you find 1 with the spec your after, but xenon's & electric folding mirrors can be retrofitted to make your search a little easier. Seems to be more 5 door's for sale than 3 lately so GLWYS!

Cheers guys.  Also what's the performance / economy difference between the 200ps and 230ps? Does the bigger turbo feel much quicker? The 0-60 stats look similar on paper.

I've had a "normal GTI " and an Ed30.

Both are very different beasts. The normal GTI is slightly Perkier but the Ed30 pulls harder throughout the rev range and feels like there is lots of power in reserve.

The ed30 engine has more character - it has a deeper exhaust note too.

Ed30 is 1-2mpg worse on fuel in my experience

Thanks, glad to hear the mpg is similar. I thought the engines would feel similar but sounds like Ed30 is a definite step up.

Also the Edition 30 engine has a lot more potential for tuning if your going down that route for example Stage 2+.

Had my ed30 about 12 months, delighted. Apr 1 map plus other mods.
Much more potential than std gti, easy/cost effective route to more power etc.
Only issue for me is that on the wet/muddy roads that are common hereabouts, hard acceleration even when overtaking can caue significant loss of traction.
