Side light replacement on xenon headlight question...
« on: December 15, 2014, 04:36:14 pm »

Does or has someone out there managed to change a sidelight bulb in a xenon headlamp on the Mk5?? Not the standard halogen lamp unit, as they are a lot easier!

Any tips, drivers side without avoiding dropping the front bumper off :sad

Cheers

Just done this yesterday.  The passenger side isnt too bad as you can see the orange/brown connection to the sidelight bulb, i was able to pull this out with my fingers.  Other people have said to use long nose pliers or pliers that have a 45 degree angle to them.

The driver side isnt as easy, i couldnt get my fingers near the connection.  I basically put the cabling round my finger and rocked it up and down and pulled slightly at the same time and the bulb came out.  I would just over emphasise dont just pull at the cables.

Hope this helps mate.

Not sure with the petrol engine but the fuel filter is behind the drivers headlight on the diesel. I find just unbolting that gives enough room to get your hand in. Just remember they pull out as opposed to quarter turn out.

The petrol is different as you thought Matto.  But like you said, no quarter turns etc, they need to be pulled out.

It was easier than with halogens. Just find the orange brown connector and pull.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Mine after 6 years were pretty stuck so I had to use force, long pliers and eventually a friend came by and helped out too.

I bet now they're easy to pull out.
