Getting my Golf gti few questions
« on: March 12, 2014, 11:46:09 pm »
Hi I should be collecting my GTi soon depending on if I like the vehicle. Its Shadow Blue and looks the part  . However to make it look 'perfect' I feel I need to make one or two changes.

The first of these is the bumper. I would like the rear valance to look like the one shown on this silver gti in this thread: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=45652.0 ( If you scroll down the page you will see it). Does anyone know where I can purchase the said bumper? I dont really like the plastic one. I have thought about painting it but I still feel it will look rather odd, as it will still have the black plastic look at the bottom. I can see on the silver gti that the diffuser and the valance look separated if you can see where I am coming from.

The second change is also shown on the car in the thread above. I would like to know specifically what he has done to make the alloys so bold. Are the alloys 18 or 19 inch Monzas? If they are 18, I have a feeling that he has used thinner tyres, painted the alloys diamond cut and lowered the car, am I correct in thinking this?

Sorry Im a newbie and I hope I didn't sound too dumb in asking these questions.

Also a big credit to the owner of the silver car I have shown, they have made it look so superb.

That bumper is off an edition 30 they are almost just the same as a normal gti, it's not a after market bumper  :happy2: I've seen some on ebay in the past. Yeah the rear bumpers separates into two parts, the black textured part on your motor will separate from the upper coloured part.

Not sure I get what you mean by saying " if I get it painted it will still have the black part on the bottom"  isn't that the part you wanted painting to begin with?

The wheels are 19" replica Monzas, so the tyre profile is thinner than that on 18" wheels. The suspension is lowered to reduce the arch gap which, with standard ride height, is quite big with the larger wheel size.
You can't 'paint' a diamond cut finish.

Cheers for that. No I mean the black part where the exhaust comes out off. I think its called a diffuser while the lower part of the bumper, the one which I want colour coded like the edition 30 is called a valance. Sorry if thats confusing. Basically I dont want to paint the valance and leave the diffuser black plastic, therefore I would prefer to maybe get this bumper which Ive realised is the edition 30 one  :ashamed:

Thanks for that. So if I cant paint it how can I get this diamond cut finish please   Also, can I not put thinner profile tyres on 18s to get this type of look?

You ask for your wheels to be diamond cut
Diamond cutting is where a wheel is first painted then some parts are diamond cut back to leave exposed metal which then has a clear laquer put over it. This gives you a two tone look where some of the wheel is painted and some is bare metal. Easiest thing would be to get a car with some original 18" Monzas because they come diamond cut as standard  :happy2:
