To be honest, If you have not upgraded to an RCD510 or RNS510. Do that first and for most !!
There after perform sound deadening on the doors. If you are still unhappy install an amp.

If you are real bass head. Than only a SUB will fill the void.

You would be better off fitting a quality aftermarket head unit rather than anything OEM.. even an RSN510 is not got the same inbuilt amplifiers that a decent aftermarket head unit would.
Sound deadening the doors makes a big difference.
I have a small stealth enclosure with a 10 inch sub. More than enough for me for now. I am looking at upgrading the door speakers but that's for me being an audiophille rather than out of necessity. (and running out of mods to do)

Defo worth it...  :happy2:

Best mod done to date... Doesn't help that the speaker locations in the mk5 are really daft...

Gone through loads of different brands for different sound stages acquired... But time and time again Focal, Hertz and Rainbow always do it for me... To achieve the best from any comps they defo need to be amped!
If you're having Audio problems i feel bad for ya son... I've got 99 problems but Bass aint one!

Clearly you and I are on the same plane for stereo's etc.
Not sure about you, but I constantly install radio's OEM or aftermarket for friends and forums members where I'm from.

Most people like the fact they receive integration which most aftermarket unit's simply cannot fill

Indeed we are  :happy2:
OEM are definitely better for ease of use, it's just that there are some good aftermarket HU's not which are very user friendly, eg the Pioneer AVH2500BT I have works exactly the same way that the RCD300 did, has full touch screen, iPod menu browsing, and no battery drain.

To get the same functionality out of an RNS510 would cost more - I would prefer to have the RNS510 with MDI, and amp up all of the door speakers, but that's lots of extra money for a system that won't really sound any better  :signLOL:
As you say there are lots of aftermarket HU's which simply don't work properly with the Mk5, or look really bad, or have annoying features.

I know very little about car audio to be honest, one thing I never really understand. I have a friend who has a small audio company who does a lot of my work :)

that's very interesting about the pioneer double din. Care to post a picture of the unit installed?

Honestly, I do not even bother with the RNS510, it's simply too expensive and Maps for our region is almost 4 years old. So not really a worth while upgrade.
Hence I only ever recommend the RCD510 which can be had for around £150-350

that's gold. That's also very dangerous. As it makes it that much easier to keep upgrading the stereo systems.

The best speakers have ever used were moral elate 6.5" 3 way comps.... I had these up front and a jl 12" sub in the boot and it sounded sublime... There not a cheap speaker though but were rated as the best component speaker for under a £1000..

i do like the OEM look though :( going to continue fitting my sub later for time being...into a RCD300 ;) splice the rear left and and right speakers and should be okay (Y)

hopefully i will just put all the bass onto the sub and keep the speakers without any as such so can have it clearer

Miss my BOSE speakers out off my audi :(
