Master cylinder is behind the clutch pedal.
The garage should know whether it's the concentric slave cylinder thats inside the gearbox as the fluid will usually leak out the box.

Well I have taken the Gti on a trip to the Lake District and all seems fine with the clutch, even up a stupidly steep pass like Hardknott  :driver: It now just seems to have a wheel bearing noise and occasional knocking noise from the front right when pulling away!

Finally found out what the rattle was!

Driving home from work the exhaust downpipe split near the turbo, the noise was biblical with loads of pops, bangs and whistles!   Now it's been replaced the rattle has gone, and Mpg has also improved.

It's worth fitting a dogbone insert to reduce the flex between engine and downpipe. Supposedly tightens the power delivery up too but I can't say it felt much different!

Cheap as it gets and a good preventative measure.

I swear this car is jinxed! Driving to work at 5am yesterday a badger ran out into the road as I was doing 55-60mph, and I literally had no chance of missing it..

Bumper, fog light (and surround) and lower wheel arch liner all smashed, with the radiator casing cracked, but thankfully not leaking. Can't bloody believe it, I was meant to be looking at a new car today!

Gaffer tape skills!

I think the rad maybe ok, but how much will I be looking at to replace the other stuff?
