RNS 510 Installed but......
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:44:01 pm »
I (with MortyGTTDI's help) fitted an RNS 510 to my car. I also have a Blaupunkt 555 amp and JL audio 12 inch sub. I am now getting really bad interference in the radio. It loses signal, sometimes it gets really bad and I have to turn it off. I used a proper ariel adaptor. I do not understand what is wrong with it as it worked fine with the old radio installed. DOes anyone have any ideas?
Also the CD has started to make clicking noises when im listening. (it is not the cd as I have tried more than one) Anyone have any ideas on this?
Any input would be appreciated as it is driving me mad!
Thanks :happy2:

When you say you used an antenna adaptor can you be more specific.

I'd guess the clicking is an issue with the ground pin.   Take a look at the wiring and compare with the pin out sticker on the unit.  Very common, you'll just need to swap the pin.

Im not sure what the adaptor was. I just took the two separate aerial plugs that came on the car standard (rcd 300) slotted the two aerial leads in to the new single adaptor and plugged into the rns.
Ill have a look for the ground pin. :happy2:

I think it's 2 and 3 on the blue part of the Quadlock connector that need swapping.

I'm guessing the antenna issue is the adaptor.

It is like the one in the pic except it did not have the wires. I was just a little block that connected onto the two origin aerial leads and then into the rns. The original colored plastic on the original aerial wires was removed.
Do you think this is the problem?

All i did was remove the plastic shrouds from the original aerial leads and fit them straight onto the back of the RNS.  The shorouds are removed really easily, they are the brown and grey bits in the pic below.

This will leave you with 2 x the below.

Then I just fitted them in the back of the RNS.

Stu may also have point.....................

Cheers for the info so I should have a look at the ground pin for the cd clicking and take the adaptor i used off and connect straight to the rns.

Did you place them in the right way round? Sounds silly but apparently a known cause of your problem.

Yeah placed them the same way as they were on the car originally. I might switch them over to try before removing it totally. Cheers
