Pressed plates.
« on: March 15, 2014, 10:29:20 pm »
Hey guys, dont know if this is the right place to put this, But i recently bought some pressed plates from a bloke off ebay called TWN Plates.

Came within a day, cant fault them, had them on for 48 hours, being infront and behind cop cars on occasions in day and night time with no problems at all. Theyre stamped with the BSAU145D, come with the EU stickers on or off, i thought mine came without, but i actually prefer the look with them.

Just thought id share if people are after any.

No pics of it on the car yet, but i did get some of the "autohaus wolfsburg" surrounds from awesome gti.

I'd like some pressed plates but I always see it's a grey area with being legal ? Some say yes been in front of police and others say they've been threatened with points etc  :booty:

Ive looked into it too, and from what ive read from actual police officers on forums, theres no restrictions on what a plate is made of, the old plates i had on my car were made of metal, which kinda shocked me, i thought they were plastic, which makes me think if they were metal and put on by a dealer, why are the pressed ones, that also have retro-flective coating on them illegal?

As long as the conform to the bsa 145 d they are fine. Material does not matter as long as to regulations with size and reflectivity etc. There are companies on eBay that send them out and they appear stuck on and from what I have found through work they may not be legal. There are one or two proper legal pressed plates sites and they are the ones that require your log book as would any normal plate company to make the plates. Where as the eBay companies don't want the log book. The correct plates should be printed or stamped on the metal and not stuck on to a pressed background. That is how we enforce it. So YES the legal pressed plate is cool

They're not "proper" pressed plates.

Proper ones have a far more pronounced 3d effect

Available at most VW shows for like 25 quid, I got mine from Europl8 on Ebay. All stamped up etc.

Yea I'd seen them. And I know it's stupid to say. But I didn't like the idea of sending my original license and v5 somewhere. I know you need stuff like that for normal plates too. But rather than send them I can go to the store and just show them and take them back. Rather than rely on Royal Mail to not lose them.

That's a very good price MC71 for good quality plates, might have to invest in a set.
