South Wales newbie
« on: March 15, 2014, 10:37:14 pm »
Hi guys and girls, I'm Pete. Picked up my new GTI today from inchcape vw Telford.

Fair few holograms I need to machine out but overall the car looks good for 49k!

Most disappointing though was the cleanliness of the interior. The detailers at the dealer seem to think prepping a car is all about spraying silicone/teflon stuff everywhere!

Went through about 10 make up remover wipes to clean the interior, the wheel was stinking!

Here's a section beforehand, see how shiny it is.

Section afterwards, nice and flat and feels much less tacky.

Hi guys, not really much in the way of mods. I might take the CD player out and put a nav unit in but that's it.

Deep pockets? Am I missing something lol?

The CD player will just be the start of adding/changing bits on the car! It's called 'the slippery slope' lol. It's all good  :happy2: Where about's are you from?

Haha hope not, buying the Golf was part of a plan to SAVE money rather than spend it ;)

I drive this on weekends which is my pet modding project lol.

Quick question I've noticed. Around town at lower speeds there's a fair bit of tyre rumble. Is that normal for the 18's?

As it happens it has. They told me it would have "branded tyres" so I was thinking Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli etc.

3 are champiro and one is a Linglong?!?!?!?!?

Suffice to say I spoke to a service manager this morning as that's not exactly what I would expect on a dealer supplied performance car...

I work in a car dealership and they only fit manufacturer standard tyres where as my last dealership would have fitted what ever was available and the cheapest cost to keep the prep bill down!

Best thing to do is get them changed...it makes such a difference! I went for sessanta's and are super quiet!! Other people will also rate eagle f1's you won't go far wrong!!

Well I've told them I want the Linglong changed to an approved tyre (which they said the champiro is) then maybe I'll sell all 4 on together and get something like the vred's or kumhos as I've had good previous use with them on my old corrado.

Nav units is a minefield too, looking at the vw units is pretty expensive I'm looking at a clarion which is half the price and get a facial plate!

Hi guys, quick question. Looking at a stereo upgrade and front speakers. Will a 62mm JL 165mm unit fit in the door? I'm looking at the C2-650 components having run JL before and liked them a lot. I presume everyone ditches the 4" mid?

Thanks.
