Turbo noise
(1/1)
spiker:
Hi, can anyone hear the turbo on the mk5, im sure I coudnt hear it when the car was new, nowafter 40k there is a winding noise, can anyone tell me if that is a problem, or a problem soon to be. Also my rear centre break light got moisture in and now doesnt work, heard the spoiler has to come off, is there any other way of getting round it, im thinking of taking the red cover off and getting a light strip and bodging it lol :signLOL:

I have seen a method where the spoiler stays on the car but its a difficult fix.
As for the turbo, I can hear it spool up when going from 2k->3k rpm, which is normal. When else can you hear it?
john_o:
rear light is a spoiler off job i'm afraid as the fixings are internal , but others have tried various workarounds.
Have a read of this SteveP's thread

forgot to add , hearing the turbo is common on remapped cars with extra boost.
Mine was quiet before I remapped it :pomppomp:
You need to check your boost levels with a gauge or VCDS , you may have a boost leak , either by unsecured hoes or by somehting like a failing diverter valve (common). Get the requested vs actual boost and compare to other cars with the same spec :happy2:
If you have followed a good oil schedule and not abused it from cold, not used crazy boost, I wouldnt be too worried that its a terminal failure...
