Mods which don't effect fuel economy. Help please!

Hey, bought a mkv golf Gttdi a few weeks ago and quite fancy some mods for it. The car was bought for good fuel economy as I bought it for going to work, 70 miles a day mon-fri. I want to make it sound better, I know it's a diesel but perhaps an induction kit, exhaust? Would they affect fuel economy much? I was looking at a miltek cat back non resonated one but they're £600+ where I looked. I was thinking about just getting a straight through pipe and r32 back box, how would that affect fuel? I've also seen people cutting the cat out, does that affect the noise at all of just a little better performance? Some say you need it for an mot and some say you can get it passed without? How's that work?

Any advice would be great. Cheers!

I think XJAY is your man for this, he's tuned diesels I believe.

A remap and driven normally will increase mpgs and have the power there when needed. Exhausts are good as they will help the turbo be more efficient but id steer away from intakes and keep the oe air filter box with either a paper air filter or an itg if you want a performance filter. These few mods will help the car run more efficiently and keep the mpgs.

get a remap , had mine done by will at p torque , bloody impressive results with no loss of mpg

anything that reduces the weight of your car will also reduce fuel consumption. Try not to carry useless tat around in the boot and if you feel brave remove the spare and replace it with a puncture repair can. Decent tyres at the correct pressure on lighter alloys will also give better fuel consumption.

Cheers guys, looks like an exhaust and a remap are on the list now. Ill have a look at that guys build thread too, and look into the plastic covers for the underneath.

Mikes dead right   It's driveability you want, not necessarily more power or greater power figures alone.

Unless you go hybrid or big turbo, massive straight line figures won't realistically be found. Making it a more performance enjoyable drive is affordable, though
