VW - A Competitive Price. Promise - What a load of Bollocks
« on: March 17, 2014, 12:04:05 pm »
Well twice now I have tried to use the VW price promise, and both times been told 2 different stories on how it works.

All of my requests have been around standard servicing, so nothing magic involved.

So my next question is, if the cars at 80,000 miles and you've had nothing but VW serving it ( Petrol), then would it cost me in the long run to change over to an Indy, in terms of trade-in value, or sale pricing ?

VW Statement:-

A Competitive Price. Promise
Quality service at a competitive price
Back to offers

As a Volkswagen driver, you appreciate the quality, reliability and great value for money that's synonymous with the Volkswagen brand. So when it comes to servicing your car, why accept second best and pay over the odds for your work? At Volkswagen we are so confident that our prices for looking after your car are competitive we promise that our charges are as low as any of our competitors The Promise For servicing, maintenance or repairs we will match any like-for-like written quote using Volkswagen Genuine Parts® from any garage within 5 miles of your participating Volkswagen authorised repairer. No catches, no clauses, no quibbles. It's that simple. Volkswagen Servicing. Quality service at a competitive price.

This offer is available only at participating Volkswagen repairers between 1st January and 31st March 2014. Quotes must be produced in writing and quoted using only Volkswagen Genuine Parts. Like for like content of quote must be for exactly comparable work. Quote supplied can come from any garage within a 5 mile driving distance from the participating Volkswagen Authorised Repairers premises. Offer is for Retail customers only. Excludes Fleet servicing, maintenance and repairs, Volkswagen Accessories and Merchandise and Bodyshop work. For further information please call 0800 333 666 for details of your local Volkswagen Authorised Repairer.

So I'm after a minor service and DSG Oil change, nothing special or magic...............

VW cost £139 + £170 = £309.00

Indy cost £99 + £139 = £238.00

The difference of £71.00 That's one hell of a saving

Both using genuine VW Oil and Parts...................

Full VW history always looks nice, but a reputable VAG specialist isn't such a bad thing in my eyes.

However I usually buy private and use common sense when buying, some people are hung up about using dealers only.
I am sure it will knock a smidgen off trade-in values if services are not at VW, but when you are talking twice the price for some services, you may be saving that money up front.

If you started taking it to fastfit places then it would detract a bit of the buyer appeal, in my eyes.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.

That independent quote you've had for a DSG oil change sounds really cheap, my local specialist wanted about £200 so I just took it to VW and paid the £179 they charge.

In terms of resale value I don't think it makes that much difference now the car is a bit older. It's only really when they are within warranty still that it's advisable to service at VW

I don't know how much you guys are paying but I paid £125 for my DSG oil change - genuine VW oil , gen filter and gen filter housing at my local garage , before I did my own work I used them a lot, only used them as I had one day to fix a pretty major leak from my filter housing 2 days before UD - they could do it that day where as I didn't have the right tools to fill up to the correct level. .. been good as gold since.

VW would not match the price on a replacement clutch and flywheel on my old TDI, they did drop from £1000+ to £580 but refused to match the price any lower than that...

My local VAG specialist quoted me £110 for the DSG service with genuine parts.

With the price match promise - im not sure if all dealerships participate in the deal? Like the service plans they advertise, not all dealerships offer the plans as they aren't in the scheme.

Hi Rich,

I get what your saying here, but I had covered that off too.

From the Web site it stated:- For further information please call 0800 333 666 for details of your local Volkswagen Authorised Repairer.

So I called the number, and simply asked which dealers in the Lancashire area, do take part in this scheme, only to be told by VW UK, they don't know, and don't have a list of people who are included in the working scheme. :stupid:

So the dealer has no idea

VW UK have no idea

So what bloody hope does the average Joe Blogs have

At that mileage I would go to an Indy, as long as you've got all paper work and genuine parts used you wouldn't have any trouble moving it on, the only place who would knock you down is a VW dealer on p/x

The dealership I use can't get the VW fixed prices correct!  Charged me well over the odd's for a 2 year service plan which included 2 MOT's. When I asked why I was told because your cars older it needs more parts!  :fighting:

Call me thick but whether it's 1 or 10 your only changing the same things?  Just had the last MOT and despite knowing i've had the service plan charged me £29.99 for the MOT!

I used to always use VWs price match for the stamps in the book before I changed to Indy for better convenience and service. Dealer never said no to my price matches and I never even had to show them a quote, they just took my word for it! It's weird that they don't price match as a blanket policy for all dealers though.

SEAT dealers seem to be cheapest for the cambelt charge, they charge something like £279 on the fixed price menu

I had a look at them but the local dealer state not for TFSI FR or Cupra engines, so shouldn't apply to GTI/ED30? Never asked though, using a trusted specialist instead.
