Splitting the rear badge - How??

(1/2) > >>

OK being a real wimp here.  Just got a replacement rear badge for my old style MY05.

I was looking at the badge and wondered if I could split the chrome from the black plastic without buggering it all up.

Fancied using a bit of CF i have here for the backing, bit bling but I do like the chrome VW

Also been reading the other posts will a newer 3D badge just stick to the original boot handle once I get the old badge off?

Any advice please?

No real advice other than being brave! If you can wedge a trim tool or credit card in you will find it will seperate quite easily. I'm sure there is a gap for access at the bottom of the badge?  :happy2:

Hi Greenouse

Thanks for the quick reply.  Stuck better at the bottom than the top :(

Do you know how the two halves are joined together?  Is it glue or tabs?

Cheers

It's just tabs. If your having trouble may I suggest a small flat bladed screw driver but be carefull as the chrome on the badge can be damaged. Not a problem I suppose if you are planning to wrap/paint it anyway!  :happy2:

Worked it out... under the adhsive tape there are 4 lugs, I managed to release these with a pen knife.

I did want to keep the chrome intact as I do like the bling, matched the GTI badge and I think black or CF wrap on a black car looks a little dull. Each to their own I suppose.

So I have actually put the CF on the backing plate and just put the chrome badge back on top.  Not a great effect, I will probably be the only one who knows its there  :signLOL:

Thanks for the help
