MK5 2.0 GT TDi injectors
« on: March 20, 2014, 02:14:08 pm »
Don't suppose any of you can point me in the right direction and enable me to affordably get my car back on the road. The diagnosis after the car died on me is that the fuel injectors which i'm led to believe are over 500 pounds each need replacing and there is four of them  :scared: Does anyone know the best place to get hold of reconditioned ones at a much lower price? I've tried calling VW to see if it was a recall issue but they have declined it. My car is an early MK5 2004 140BHP.

Vw had a recall on Pd injectors a while back between 1 or 2 years. Try darkside developements.

Okay thanks. Looking like ebay will be the only way to affordably get this car back on the road. Reconditioned ones are coming in at £250 plus vat each ! Sticking to petrol motors from now on!

Looks like these guys do them cheaper if you send back your knackered ones for them to refurb too.  Don't know anything about the company though but it might be worth putting a call out to them.  If not you might be able to find a similar company closer to you to see if they can recondition your ones to keep the cost down?

Try to get them reconned. Ultrasound and setting the opening pressures to 205 bar..still a bit shady from VW....im sure there was a campaign on them... :fighting:

What injector is defective? Try to replace 1..??, what is the actual problem? Loads of black smoke? Missfire? The injector harnesses for PD are prone to fail, in crankcase..

I thought the recall was only on diesel 170bhp injectors, and then only certain bosch types.

Siemens injectors Piezo..there is a part list incl. Loom etc..
2 o-rings instead if 1..

Thanks for the comments. I changed the Glow plugs myself a couple of months ago (novice) so it could be i disturbed the loom. Am i right in saying the same loom feeds the glow plugs and the injectors? Looking on ebay now for a loom or possibly a new one from dark side or VW as somebody mentioned above. Is there a way to test the loom like maybe a continuity test?

Background on the car
I bought the car second hand and its always had a lumpy idle which i read is quite common so i never did anything about it. Everything else was running well up until a few months ago when i stopped turned the car off and back on at various places within 5 mins of each other. The car was warmed up but wouldnt start on the way home, so i called the AA and his advise was to change the glow plugs which i did along with a new battery. Everything ran fine for a few weeks until it cut out on me whilst driving. Local garage managed to get it running again but it failed on me after a mile and a half and they have advised me to change the loom first then the injectors.

Regarding the loom..its round socket going to you crankcase. Take the top cover and have look. If the coil on injector or loom is faulty it throws a fault to ecu memory. But might be just filled with eng. Oil..we had similiar problem and turned to be an egr valve on caddy..so make sure you vaccum hoses and valves/pump works fine. How they diagnosed injectors??? And if did you drain your fuel tank and changed filter

could be classic golf diesel warm starting sensor problems, loads of people had trouble with that. Sensors everywhere.

I had this very same problem with my 2006 1.9tdi golf.
Took the car in for a service when I first bought it, mechanic said the glow plug in 4th cylinder kept spinning, so they had to drill it out and rethread the glow plug port.
That's when the problem started.
Car started juddering under idle, but seemed okay when actually driving.
Got the car diagnosed and turned out to be a "Cylinder 4 missfire".
I used diesel injector cleaner from Halfords, solved the problem for 2 weeks, but it came back and it looked worse because the car was smoking like a steam train.
Changed the £70 loom, which cost £60 labour... didn't work.
Then got a refurbed injector for £250, plus another £60 labour to change it and it sorted the issue.

I tried to change the injector myself, but I didn't have the tool to remove the last bolt from the EGR valve.
I used diesel specialists in Isleworth, London.
But don't know how good that would be for you due to distance etc.
None of that was helpful, but apparently if you check the loom and it looks tired due to heat etc.
Then that could very well be your problem.

These cars are common for the fuel pump in the tank failing which would be my first port of call - all the other items mentioned would rarely cause "the car died on me" for the 140 model.

Get someone to scan it with VCDS and see what DTCs are stored - here's a list of people with the tool.
