Christ on a bike that's tempting, only a few quid more than a Gti with no maintenance.

I did some figures based on VW's PCP on a new Gti the other day and I worked out by the time you bought the car outright with cash or paid for it in full on finance you'd loose in depreciation roughly the same as you'd pay in leasing over the 3yrs, that's based on a trade in price mind you.

Your paying the interest only on the car!!!  Throwing money at something you'll never own unless you stump up the 20k ballon payment at the end..

^^ that deal has a 13.7k balloon payment not 20k though?  

And you're not just paying the interest at all? Over the term you'd pay £6k in interest compared to roughly £3.8K in interest if using a bank loan to finance the £22.3k borrowed, more expensive yes as you pay interest on the total amount including the ballon and the apr is fairly high, but far from 'only paying the interest'...

So , you put down 7.5k deposit ( My Ed30 in other words lol) pay £300 a month ,for just having the thrill, and then at the end of the term, cough up another 14k or walk away.... Yes good Idea to walk away but would of sold my car in the 1st place and have nothing to show for it lol... Sorry, that's mental and too much for my finances

That deal I just looked at for Gti cost you in total just over £7k for 2yrs (I think the R was about £1k more), you'd probably loose that in depreciation alone and the cost would be more if you took finance interest into the bargain if you were "buying" the car.
Lots of people seem to be getting hung up on the fact you never "own" the car and don't seem to reckon into things that cars, especially brand new ones lose large amounts of money in a short space of time, the more and more i look into these type of deals it just looks 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other it's just a choice of how you loose your money.

I used to be like that but now can see the advantages of leasing. Me and the other half have decided to have one car owned outright (my gti :) ) and another on lease as she has to use hers at work. We just view the lease car as a mobile contract and upgrade/change every few years. Plus hers is a scheme through work

I'm like that with my other car , I'm about to change our 2011 hyundai for another new one, which arrives end of nxt week.Cheep as chips to run, will do 200 miles on nearly £20, free road tax, 5 yr warranty and 3 years free servicing, just got back 2 thirds of my original deposit and have a new model/version car..
That to me makes sense, as the amount of money in depreciation for a city car is next to nothing,and I get to enjoy my pride n joy more often without clocking up the mileage/usage costs that any GTi will bring regular if used hard.

Where the hell from all the quotes I got were coming back at £450-500 a month with 2k down the mk6 R might have to be traded in

Getting itchy feet to change if im honest. I have a predicament. The pitch where i drove the R also has an S3. 08/08 with 53k. Facelift, xenons, cruise, nav and leather with 19" upgrade for 15k or wait it out for the right R. Opinions wpuld be much appreciated.

Will also av to shift the old girl. Been looking on the trader n the prices are crazy. Can anyone gimme some ideas of trade n private sale?

I suspect a 56 reg plate would make it a standard gti.
