decat or 200cell cat?
« on: March 29, 2014, 12:46:13 am »
Think I'm going to bite the bullet and go from stage 1+ to 2+ apr
What's the bhp/torque difference from a sports cat over a decat I could possibly get a friendly mot but what if I was stopped by vosa with a decat is it worth it?

decat.. cheaper, sounds better.. vosa stopping you is unlikely.. especially with the tfsi being able to keep half quiet off boost with a decat

any performance difference between the 2 will be unnoticable

Although with a decat you wont be able to get insurance for the road. Id go 200 cel and stay legal. May cost more but it costs less than being prosecuted or having your car seized for no insurance. Even though you may have insurance on the car, you are not insured to drive the vehicle with out a cat fitted, so it voids the insurance.

Iv been void before and lost out on 5k so I know which route I'll take, Didn't know it would void insurance but then again if it would fail an mot it's not road worthy

declare ur exhaust as a full performance exhaust.. they dont ask any questions about what cell your cat is etc or anything about the system atall other then possibly bhp increase.. if your car has mot then they cannot void it they also wont be able to prove it wouldnt be ok as they dont know that it would fail an emissions test.. and your car will be down on there records as having a performance exhaust

but its down to you of course

if your still worried mention decat to your insurance company some will be ok with it

or have a dummy cat made  :happy2:

or just get a sports cat if your worried and not bothered about noise

Knowing what voids insurance is my job and a decat does void the insurance, even if it is declared as a performance system. car has to have one fitted as a requirement for the road whether or not it passes or fails the emissions test. Its like the recent issue of removing dpfs from diesels. For the extra price the sports cats cost in  comparison to the possible loss of being covered if you have the unfortunate event of being involved in a crash. I know what I would do. If you can't afford one know then save up and get one later. Companies are tightening up on claims and assessors do check for any mods that haven't been declared correctly.

Yes, but most remaps will prevent the warning light comming on.

Decat for the win, as long as mot is not a issue. Lambda spacer will stop the eml coming on.

Currently facing this debate myself. My downpipe has just cracked and I really can't afford to stretch to a sports cat at the moment because i've just had to fork out for service/mot/4 new tyres and have a little one due next month. What I'd like to know is:

How much louder is a decat?
Will the EML come on?
Does anyone have a sports cat they'd like to sell me!

I have a friendly MOT place and chances of getting checked by VOSA is slim to none.

It is louder but not unbearable.. Depends on preferences and the rest of your exhaust setup.. Eml will come on unless u use a lambda extender (only work sometimes) or u get it mapped out

When these spacers are used there still not working correctly and you'll notice a jump in mpg as the fueling will be incorrect get it mapped out!
