Camfollower - urgent help please

Tried to fit a new camfollower today but really need to know if removing the HPFP can let the cambelt shift on the valve timing? Reason I ask is one forum instruction mentions checking the timing first.

Any help please as I need to know before I can get the difficult banjo bolt off

Replacing the cam follower won't affect the cam belt. The setting TDC recommendation is all about the spring on the HPFP being extended rather than compressed so it doesn't spring out at you. It's not a necessity to have the engine at TDC, I didn't when I did mine

I think that's just so the cam for the cam follower is at the bottom of  the lobe to make it easier to do up the bolts on the pump when refitting. You can't alter the timeing when fitting the cam follower and it will fit no matter where the cam is positioned

As above , doesn't matter. Only makes it easier to refit pump bolts when refitting . By saying easier this isn't a difficult job by any means . 20 mins tops . There's a guide on here to keep you right, just don't over tighten the bolts.

Make sure if you have two metal hoses that you have the correct tool to undo the metal pipe.... as I didn't check stupidly and got to that bolt (being the last one) and had to put all back together again until I got a hold of the right part..

Metal pipe is a 17mm nut so a 17mm spanner required. Rubber return hose isn't necessary to remove.

No, underneath you have a weird like multi point bit thing I forgot the name. Its very hard to reach under to undo the bolt.

Safety tip for this job - don't do it if your car has been driven in the past 2-3 hours. Petrol likes to ignite on hot/warm engine parts

I think it is a M8 spline tool.

Leave the car overnight and don't open the drivers door when you come to do the job as it charges the pump. Go through the window or passenger door. Mine was the metal pipe job. No issues I just used a ratchet spanner with the multi spline tool in it. I then put some electrical tape on the back of the spanner to stop the spline falling down so I could do it with one hand as it's a tight space.
