engine mounts transmission mounts or suspension bushes???
« on: October 09, 2009, 03:29:03 pm »
for some crazy reason i have just asked dubtek for quote on both side bsh engine mounts and the bottom dogmount mount. if the price is good ill get them(in two minds though, just in case the wife goes apesh!t :sad1:)what a loser, lol.

anybody who has had this sort of mod fitted know how much the labour would be to install these or at least the amount of hours to install them. I could be tempted to put the poly bushes on the fron suspension as well.

....

Very easy and quick to install if you've got a properly equipped workshop. IIRC, 2 hours absolute max to do all three.

RR's right the BSH version of the lower mount is easy as its a diff design    (VWR's much less so, but better imho)
all 3 can be done by a reasonably competent mech.
Im prob gonna do my 2 side mounts myself  :happy2:

You can buy BSH stuff in the UK via Dubtek. If it's possible to give you a good deal he will - He's very good that way. He did the BSH CatchTank GB for us recently.

Personally I think the VWR mounts are more substantial but they may be more expensive. VF offer engine mounts too.

My opinion.....

The VWR mounts are overpriced (this has been communicated to VWR by another forum member) for what they are in reality.

The Dubtek mounts look to be far better engineered.  And are substanially cheaper, i think we are waiting for communication from BSH via Dubtek as to the possibility of a GB.

Again i must stress this is just my opinion, and not added to cause Controversy.

just remember the lower VWR mount does not have a Uk equivalent that replaces the same 'bits' , I would only get that.
But yes for side mounts you could choose to go VWR/BSH etc as they are all very similar

.... x 2

I followed VWR's advice and only fitted the lower mount and it's the one that makes the most difference. I immediately felt the benefits but it lacked that sound I love so much in The Red Temptress - Adding the VWR side mounts solved that and gives me the Grrrrrrrrr!!

....Respecting that this is your opinion and knowing that you are a helicopter engineer (or similar), I'm genuinely interested in why you think that the BSH offerings "look to be far better engineered". I'm not disagreeing with you but until I read and understand your reasoning I am keeping my mind open as to whether I agree this is so or not.

The VF mounts are another option but look less solid as a structure. As an engineer, Dave, what do you think of the VF mounts?

In my opinion, thinking that something is overpriced can be very subjective. Let's not forget that VWR's mounts will not be produced in large quantity as demand is somewhat limited. Also, BSH have already shown that they seem prepared to subsidise and reduce their profits on a product in order to promote themselves - It's a well-known marketing ploy which happens to benefit the consumer but doesn't necessarily mean that rival products are overpriced.

Having said that, perhaps VWR could offer their mounts at a cheaper price but I certainly had no problem paying their costs - It's a commercial decision which only they can and should be allowed to decide. When I was in business I occasionally had someone tell me I was too expensive but it was a very subjective opinion and usually used to try to negotiate a lower price.

Just like you, Dave, I'm merely discussing this openly and not seeking 'controversy'. :happy2:

I am also thinking about engine mounts.
Unfortunately, could not get in touch with VWR regarding their engine mounts, as I was prepared to buy them on the spot.
Now I am thinking about VF Engineering mounts (those with red bushes).
But there is also BSH.
Really at cross roads here.  :sad1:

cheers guys.

that was kinda the way im starting to think. If its the bottom one that makes the biggest difference ill get that first, along with the bushes, then the side mounts ill get at a later date. That is unless dbtek offers an extra special price.

....but i could also do with an intercooler. tooo many choices

Yes, regardless of what may be differing opinions about which engine mounts are best/cheapest etc, I think we are all agreed or have the experience that the lower mount is the one which does the most to reduce engine movement and deliver the consequential benefits.

Don't forget to include a Quaife on your list!
